Safe Renting Guide

ClosetDrop is dedicated to providing you a fun and safe marketplace to rent out your items or rent from someone else. Please help us do this by reporting suspicious listings and providing feedback on owners and renters/customers.
Ensuring you won’t be disappointed:
  • Always take a bond when letting some rent your item. This is your security over your item while someone else has it and will help ensure a safe return.
  • Always read the item description carefully, ensure that you check sizing and price.
  • If the photos and description look like they’ve been borrowed from another site or something doesn’t seem right, research the item and pricing.
  • Check the owner’s feedback rating.
  • Check a renter/customer’s feedback rating.
  • If the seller has no feedback (or plenty of neutral or negative feedback), you may want to reconsider letting them rent your item.
  • Review the contact details of the other user to ensure you note them down correctly and contact the right person.
  • Where possible deal with people locally, if you follow this one rule and you will avoid almost all scams.
  • NEVER GIVE OUT FINANCIAL INFORMATION (credit card number etc).
What to look for:
  • Check the photos on the listing – does it look as it should? Compare the details with products on the brand’s own website.
  • Check the owner’s feedback rating.
  • Check the renter/customer’s feedback rating.
  • Does the condition in the photos reflect the description?
Once you have viewed an owner’s contact details, contact them as soon as you can.
Keep all payment details and emails exchanged with a user until a rental has been complete and the item has been returned. Let us know immediately if you are having difficulty with a user.
 
Troubleshooting
Most problems are the result of either poor communication or differing expectations between the owner and the renter (person borrowing your item).
Stay in contact with each other and ensure you understand when things are expected.
Try and arrange a safe place to meet and exchange item/money. This allows you to check condition versus the description before finalizing the rental.
Users may not be receiving one another’s emails due to spam filters or email filtering. Check your junk or bulk email folders. Please use Facebook or the phone numbers provided to complete the rental experience.
If you have had a negative experience with a user, place neutral or negative feedback on the user saying so. This should prompt them into action and serves to warn other users.
 
Personal Safety
The overwhelming majority of ClosetDrop users are trustworthy and well-intentioned. Nevertheless, it’s very important to take the same common sense precautions online as you would offline. When meeting someone for the first time, please remember to:
  • Insist on a public meeting place like a cafe or take someone with you when meeting at someone’s home.
  • Do not meet in a secluded place, or invite strangers into your home
  • Be especially careful when renting high value items
  • Tell a friend or family member where you’re going and who you’re going to meet
  • Take your mobile phone along if you have one
  • Consider having a friend accompany you at all times
  • Trust your instincts
